The Foundry Loft

The Foundry Loft reimagines a 1920s brick warehouse in Kanpur as a vibrant, contemporary workspace, celebrating the dialogue between heritage and modernity. Designed as a competition entry, the project preserves the original textured red brick façade, allowing its industrial character and history to remain intact.

In contrast, large black-framed windows and a striking glass-and-steel atrium addition introduce a bold, modern layer. The rooftop extension acts as a luminous creative hub, where transparency and openness define the spatial experience. Inside, exposed timber beams and visible mechanical systems reinforce the building’s raw, industrial aesthetic while supporting a flexible and collaborative work environment.

At street level, the building engages the public realm through a corner café and outdoor seating along a cobblestone street, fostering a lively urban edge. Soft, diffused daylight enhances the richness of materials, highlighting the tactile quality of brick, steel, and wood.

The design embodies adaptive reuse at its best—transforming a historic structure into a dynamic office that is both rooted in its past and oriented toward the future.
